What is HERO Training?
HERO teaches responsible help-seeking: notice when a peer may need support, respond with care, and involve a trusted adult.
Does HERO train students to become counselors?
No. Students are not asked to diagnose, counsel, investigate, or manage a crisis. Their role is to help connect a peer with an appropriate adult.
Who is considered a trusted adult?
A trusted adult may be an appropriate school or family adult who can follow established procedures and connect a young person with qualified help. Each school should define this locally before delivery.
Is HERO a suicide-prevention or clinical program?
Life that Counts describes HERO as responsible help-seeking education, not mental-health treatment, clinical training, or a substitute for a school’s crisis procedures.
What should a student do when there is an immediate safety concern?
Immediately involve an appropriate adult and follow the school’s emergency procedures. HERO does not replace professional or emergency support.
