Fiscal stewardship
Michael Anthony “Tony” Turbyfill, M.S., CPA
Fiscal Officer
More than 20 years of accounting, nonprofit, local-government audit, financial-reporting, and fiscal-management experience.
Michael Anthony “Tony” Turbyfill brings more than 20 years of accounting and financial-management experience to Life That Counts. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting and has professional experience in public accounting, nonprofit tax work, local-government audit, financial-statement preparation, general-ledger management, forecasting, fractional-chief-financial-officer services, and data-security practices.
As Fiscal Officer, Tony helps Life That Counts translate program plans and funding requirements into disciplined financial administration. His work may include budget-to-actual monitoring, cash management, payroll and effort documentation, procurement and conflict-of-interest procedures, invoice and subaward review, support for federal financial reporting, audit readiness, and grant closeout. He helps leadership and the Board see where funds are committed, how spending relates to an approved scope, and what documentation must be retained.
Fiscal stewardship is a system of shared responsibility. Tony prepares, reviews, and documents financial information within defined controls; organizational leadership and the Board retain their own approval and oversight duties. No individual should approve their own transaction or replace the organization’s required separation of duties.
His role supports the less visible work that allows programs to operate responsibly: timely records, consistent controls, clear reporting, and readiness for funder, auditor, and Board review.
